In an endless quest for natural beauty and unforgettable memories Mangrove Birding Journeys was born as a company with the vision of sharing the overwhelming biodiversity of the Central Pacific of Costa Rica. After observing carefully for more than 25 years the local nature. We took a journey to improve all services offered at the time in the area using few basic but rather important principles such as sustainable growth, environmental awareness, and the will to make a positive change in the life of all the flora & fauna of Central Pacific. During the past decades we have been blending our expertise in important fields such as biology, conservation, photography and businesses to create a tour operator that can well become an example to follow. At Mangrove Birding Journeys nature is first and our responsible practices and approaches to the natural world is our fingerprint. Dedicated to offer the finest nature experiences; we have put together a list of tour activities that can suit the most demanding clientele whether they are from a casual family group wishing to see crocodiles, monkeys and toucans, to physically challenged birdwatcher, or world travelled birder with 6000 birds on their life list; or even a National Geographic award winning photographer. Mangrove Birding Journeys is aware of the huge need to leave a legacy behind. Therefore, as part of our internal growth in the community since 2018 environmentally conscientious projects has been a steady line. We truthly care for making that small but positive step called Act locally, Affect globally. Concern on the river pollution, the degrading ecosystems such as mangrove swamps, and our tropical beaches we have partnered with several non-profit organizations to maintain a healthy crocodile river which also affects the mangrove swamps, migratory birds, local fish species and of course our tropical beaches.

Mangrove Birding Journeys is not only a serious birding tours company, we are also unique in the Americas by being the only photography tour operator to offer workshops, expeditions and daily tours with the prestigious Nikon camera gear included. Using nothing but the best nikkor prime lenses of 600-500-400-300 mm optics to the enjoyment of all nature lovers whether you have never used a professional camera or you are on a photographic assignment for the New York Times.

But as if it wasn’t enough we went the extra mile and conditioned our boats for wheelchair users, photographers with heavy tripods, specialize scientific tours on observing the population of the endangered Scarlet Macaws and the ONLY Night River Boat Tour in Costa Rica. This all new tour experience is like no other in the country by venturing into untamed lives of night creatures like those filmmakers of Discovery Channel.

We are surrounded by mangrove forest, pacific sunsets and Carara National Park. Located at the world known crocodile river of Rio Grande de Tarcoles is home to the largest population of American Crocodiles in Central America in which many of them exceed the length of 5 meters and over 600 kilos and with 327 species of birds.
